About Juniata Golf Course

In 1923 the Fairmount Park Commission chose a tract along Tacony Creek in Northeast Philadelphia for a new public course. Park engineer Alan D. Corson laid it out to be friendlier to play than the city's Cobbs Creek. The first nine holes opened on July 14, 1927, and all 18 were open by Memorial Day 1930. A 2003 fire destroyed the clubhouse, and the park commission later cut off funding. A nonprofit led by former club manager Bob Wheeler then took over, and the course was busy again by 2008.
