About Bergen Golf Course

Bergen Golf Course is named for Presbyterian minister Rev. John Bergen, who pioneered the farm the Springfield Park Board bought in 1913. According to Sangamon County History, the first official rounds on Bergen's nine-hole course were played on May 22, 1915, making it one of Springfield's earliest public courses. It remains one of the Springfield Park District's two 9-hole courses, at 2900 Clear Lake Ave.
