Western Illinois University built a nine-hole course on university farmland north of the Lamoine River after campus growth displaced its earlier course; it opened in 1972. A back nine was added in 2001 with a gift from a former Leatherneck golfer, and the course was renamed for Harry Mussatto, who coached the WIU golf team from 1950 to 1985.
