About Kemper Lakes Golf Club
Kemper Lakes Golf Club opened in 1979 as an upscale daily-fee course built by James S. Kemper Jr. of Kemper Insurance, with a design by the Chicago partnership of Ken Killian and Dick Nugent. Water is the defining feature: lakes and wetlands touch the majority of holes, demanding precise carries and rewarding brave lines across a rolling, tree-framed property northwest of Chicago near Long Grove and Kildeer. The club earned national attention when it hosted the 1989 PGA Championship, won by Payne Stewart with a closing birdie. It has since staged other prominent events, including the 2018 KPMG Women's PGA Championship and a U.S. Women's Amateur. Now a private club, Kemper Lakes remains one of the Chicago area's most respected championship tests.
