The Village of Glen Ellyn built Village Links on 170 acres to work as both a public golf course and a stormwater detention system. David Gill designed the original course, which opened July 16, 1967; his added nine was joined with the original back nine in 1977 to form today's 18. His son Garrett Gill renovated the course in the early 2000s, and it has hosted U.S. Open sectional qualifying.
