About Bunn Golf Course

Bunn Golf Course sits in a park that began as Mildred Park, a private amusement park the Springfield Park District bought in 1909. The district renamed it Bunn Park in 1913 for financier John W. Bunn (1831-1920). According to Sangamon County History, the golf course opened with nine holes in 1914 (the district has at times listed 1911 or 1912) and was expanded to 18 holes in 1917. Today it is one of the district's two 18-hole public courses, a tree-lined layout with narrow fairways at 2500 S. 11th St.
