About Colbert Hills Golf Course
The idea for Colbert Hills dates to 1994, when Kansas State alumnus and Champions Tour winner Jim Colbert championed a university-run course to train the Wildcat golf teams and support turfgrass research and superintendent education. On roughly 300 acres of donated Flint Hills land northwest of Manhattan, Colbert partnered with Dallas architect Jeff Brauer on the roughly $11 million layout, which opened in April 2000 with an invitational pro-am featuring Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd and Annika Sorenstam. The rugged, windswept prairie site yields a demanding, links-influenced test with dramatic elevation change and native tallgrass. Home to Kansas State University's men's and women's programs, the daily-fee course also doubles as an environmental and turf-management teaching laboratory, and it was conceived partly to introduce disadvantaged youth to the game.
