About Wichita Country Club
Founded in 1900 by local golf enthusiasts under first president Thomas H. Griffith, Wichita Country Club began as a nine-hole layout near what is now College Hill Park. After an interim move in 1913, the club relocated to its present site at 13th Street and Rock Road in 1950, where noted Indiana architect William H. Diddel designed the par-71, eighteen-hole course members play today. Its members have shaped the game well beyond Kansas, including former USGA president Judy Bell. The course has hosted significant national championships, among them the 1955 U.S. Women's Open, the 1969 U.S. Senior Amateur and the 2010 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. In the mid-2010s architect Tripp Davis refreshed the tees and bunkers, improving drainage while restoring Diddel's classic styling.
