Sunset Ridge Country Club

Sunset Ridge Country Club, a private club in the northern Chicago suburbs on the Northbrook/Northfield edge of Cook County, was founded in 1923. The 18-hole course was originally laid out by Indiana-born architect William Diddel, a two-time Indiana Amateur champion who turned to design and shaped dozens of Midwestern courses; architect Rick Jacobson renovated the layout in the mid-2000s. Measuring roughly 6,750 yards, the parkland course is especially noted for its varied par-three holes, each mixing sand, angles and, at the 15th, water to test players from the tee. Over the decades the club has welcomed championship golf, hosting the Women's Western Open in 1935 and the PGA Tour's Western Open in 1972, one of professional golf's oldest events. Mature trees, subtle contours and classic 1920s routing give the course an enduring, traditional character prized by its membership.
