About Columbus Park

Columbus Park was designed between 1915 and 1920 by Danish-American landscape architect Jens Jensen, then chief landscape architect of the West Park Commission, and is regarded as his Prairie Style public masterpiece. Jensen integrated a nine-hole golf course into his prairie-inspired plan, using native hawthorn, oak and linden; the course opened in 1921. The 135-acre park is one of the few landscapes designated a National Historic Landmark in its entirety, and the course is now operated by the Chicago Park District.
