About Eagles Pride Golf Course

Eagles Pride is the golf course of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, near DuPont, Washington. Army troops and engineers under Gen. Joseph Castner laid out the first Fort Lewis course in 1929. A professionally designed Work Projects Administration 18-hole course and clubhouse replaced it. In 1948 the post joined the Tacoma Golf Association, then resigned at the next meeting over the association's "whites only" tournament policy, and rejoined a year later after the policy was dropped. Lee Elder played here on Army "golf duty" in 1959–61. Renamed Eagles Pride, it is now open to the public.
