About Gay Brewer Jr Golf Course

Picadome opened in 1927 as a nine-hole layout and is described as Lexington's, and central Kentucky's, first public golf course; a second nine followed in 1934. It later went private (as Big Elm Country Club and then the Campbell House club) before the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government bought it in 2000 and restored it as a public municipal course. It now carries the name of 1967 Masters champion Gay Brewer Jr., a Lexington native who learned the game here.
