About Hinsdale Golf Club
Hinsdale Golf Club, founded in 1898 in what is now Clarendon Hills, Illinois, ranks among the oldest golf clubs in the Chicago area. Its origins trace to local enthusiasts who, in the mid-1890s, laid out a rough six-hole course in a Hinsdale pasture before the members applied for a state charter in 1898. The club soon relocated to a tract of rolling farmland, where it built a nine-hole course and clubhouse, later expanding to a full eighteen holes as the game grew. Over its long life the parkland layout has been reshaped by multiple hands and has, as the club puts it, "survived fires, wars, financial reversals." A private members' club throughout its history, Hinsdale has balanced preservation of its founding traditions with ongoing modernization, remaining a fixture of golf in Chicago's western suburbs for more than 120 years.
