Manistee National Golf & Resort

Manistee National Golf & Resort sits in the wooded hills of northern Michigan and offers two distinct championship courses. Canthooke Valley, now called The Retreat, was designed by Gary Pulsipher and opened in 1994, routed to blend into the existing terrain. The second course, Cutter's Ridge, now known as The Revenge, was designed by veteran Michigan architect Jerry Matthews and opened in 2000. Matthews, a past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, is known for a natural design philosophy and environmental stewardship. Both course names nod to the region's logging heritage: a 'cutter' was a lumberjack who felled trees, while a 'canthook' was the tool used to roll logs toward the river and mill. Together the layouts give the resort thirty-six holes of varied northwoods golf.
