The Oakland course in Garrett County is a New Deal course. Residents petitioned the town in January 1937, and 75 Works Progress Administration workers began building a nine-hole, par-34 course that April; it opened to golfers on October 1, 1937. WPA crews came back to improve it in 1939 and to build a clubhouse in 1941, and it has since grown to 18 holes, with later work credited to Ron Forse.
