Pikewood National

Pikewood National is a private club in the hills outside Morgantown, born from an unusual partnership. Owners and mining-company principals John Raese and Bob Gwynne conceived the course on rugged, forested land, personally routing and shaping holes over years of hands-on construction using company engineers and equipment, with guidance from veteran tour professionals Johnny Pott and Dow Finsterwald. The result is a bold, demanding layout that climbs bluffs, crosses ravines, and threads through dense woodland, with a signature natural waterfall framing one of its par 3s. Several holes carry names honoring the pros who helped shape it. The finished course drew national acclaim, earning Golf Digest's Best New Private Course honor and steady rankings among West Virginia's very best. It is widely regarded as one of the toughest tests in the state.
