The Greenbrier - The Old White TPC

The Old White is the historic heart of golf at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Designed by American golf-architecture pioneer Charles Blair Macdonald with his associate Seth Raynor, it opened in 1914, and President Woodrow Wilson was among its earliest players. True to Macdonald's philosophy, the layout is built around template holes inspired by celebrated originals in Britain such as North Berwick's Redan and Prestwick's Alps. Raynor returned in the 1920s to refine the course. By 2000 the design had lost much of its character, and architect Lester George led a faithful restoration, reopening the reimagined Old White in 2006 with reinstated bunkering, greens, and routing details. After catastrophic June 2016 flooding severely damaged the property, further restoration work followed. Long a fixture of American resort golf, the Old White later hosted a PGA Tour event and remains a beloved example of the Macdonald-Raynor template style.
