Quarry Oaks Golf Course

Quarry Oaks sits on a former limestone aggregate mine above the Platte River near Ashland, Nebraska, a site whose valleys, ridges, and sharp elevation changes gave architect John LaFoy a dramatic canvas. LaFoy, a South Carolina designer with restoration credits at Augusta National, first walked the land in 1993 and immediately saw its potential. Construction moved unusually fast, beginning in 1995 and finishing before year's end, and the course opened in 1996. It quickly drew national attention, earning acclaim as one of the best new public courses in America. Owned by the Abel family since its inception, Quarry Oaks became a benchmark for Nebraska public golf. A significant renovation and clubhouse project completed in 2024 refreshed the course while preserving the rugged, quarry-carved character that has long made it a bucket-list round.
