Seaview Golf Club Bay Course

The Bay Course at Seaview traces to 1914, when Philadelphia-area utilities magnate Clarence Geist founded the club along Reeds Bay in Galloway Township; the course and clubhouse opened in early 1915. Hugh Wilson, of Merion fame, shaped the original design, with Donald Ross contributing to the routing and bunkering, giving the Bay its Scottish-flavored character: modest length, firm turf, small undulating greens, and deep pot-style bunkers exposed to the wind off the bay. In 1942 Seaview hosted the PGA Championship, then a match-play event, where Sam Snead captured the first of his seven major titles. For decades the Bay Course was the longtime home of the LPGA's ShopRite Classic, hosting the tournament many times between the mid-1980s and 2014. It remains a strategic test prizing accuracy and short-game imagination over power.
