About Shawnee Golf Course

A Louisville Metro Parks municipal course, Shawnee opened around 1926 within Frederick Law Olmsted's Shawnee Park and hosted the 1932 U.S. Amateur Public Links; the city celebrated 100 years of golf at Shawnee and Crescent Hill in 2026. The setting carries civil-rights weight: Shawnee Park was legally restricted to whites from the mid-1920s until it was desegregated by Mayor Andrew Broaddus in 1955, following an NAACP-backed lawsuit after Brown v. Board of Education, while Black Louisvillians were confined to nearby Chickasaw Park. It remains a public, city-operated facility.
