Sunnehanna Country Club

Sunnehanna Country Club grew out of the older Cambria Country Club when new land became available near Johnstown around 1920; the club was organized shortly after and took its name from a Native American term tied to a local waterway. A.W. Tillinghast designed the course in the early 1920s, and it opened in 1923. Set on a hilltop, the layout wraps a full 360 degrees around the clubhouse and reflects classic Tillinghast values: small, well-guarded greens that place a premium on accurate iron play. Since 1954 the club has hosted the Sunnehanna Amateur, formally the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions, now a Category A event in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in the country. Its past fields have included Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods.
