San Francisco Golf Club

San Francisco Golf Club traces its roots to 1895, among the oldest clubs on the West Coast, and settled on its present Ingleside grounds where A.W. Tillinghast crafted the course that opened in 1915. It is widely regarded as one of Tillinghast's most authentic surviving layouts, prized for a serene, secluded setting rather than for hosting big-time competition. The compact routing showcases his bold bunkering and inventive green complexes, and the club has long favored preservation over fashion, keeping the design remarkably close to the architect's intent. The property carries a slice of California history as well: the land is associated with the 1859 Broderick-Terry duel, one of the last notable duels in the state, commemorated by monuments near the course.
