About Sydney R. Marovitz

This iconic nine-hole Chicago Park District course opened June 15, 1932 as Waveland Golf Course, built on lakefront land at a reported cost of $2 million. Nestled between Lake Shore Drive and the shores of Lake Michigan, it is one of the city's most scenic municipal tracks. In June 1991 Mayor Richard M. Daley renamed it for Sydney R. Marovitz, who served as a Chicago Park District Board commissioner from 1974 to 1986.
