About The Evans at Canal Shores

Canal Shores opened in 1919 on the banks of the then-new North Shore Channel, straddling Evanston and Wilmette. Golf professional and civic leader Peter N. Jans championed the course, first called the Peter Jans Golf Course. It sits on public land owned by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and is run by the volunteer nonprofit Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association. In June 2024 it was rebranded The Evans at Canal Shores, honoring Evanston-schooled Chick Evans, who founded the Evans Scholars Foundation in 1930.
