About Tomahawk Hills Golf Course

Tomahawk Hills in Shawnee is billed as the oldest golf course in the Kansas City metro area. It opened in 1910 as Elm Ridge Golf and Country Club, relocated from Blue Hills in Kansas City, Mo. It was renamed Shawnee Heights Country Club in 1915, expanded to 18 holes in 1917, and closed after a 1922 clubhouse fire. It reopened as a fee course in 1927, was used as a girls' camp under the National Youth Administration from 1935 to 1941, and reopened as Tomahawk Hills Country Club in 1954. In 1973 the Johnson County Park and Recreation District bought it and made it a public course.
