Abbey Springs Golf Course

Abbey Springs opened in 1971 above the southern shore of Geneva Lake in Fontana, Wisconsin, from an original design by the Chicago-area partnership of Ken Killian and Dick Nugent. The semi-private layout plays through hilly, wooded, condominium-lined terrain, using dramatic elevation change, narrow corridors and well-placed water and bunkering to reward accuracy, with downhill holes framing wide views of the lake. After roughly a half-century of play, the greens and bunkers had worn down, and the club commissioned a comprehensive renovation of about 2.5 million dollars led by Lohmann Quitno architects Bob Lohmann and Todd Quitno. Completed for a spring 2022 reopening, the work rebuilt green complexes and bunkers, improved drainage and expanded some water features while preserving the original routing, refreshing one of the Lake Geneva area's most scenic courses.
