The course opened in 1999 as Stone Creek Golf Club, designed by Dick Nugent and his son Tim. In June 2020 The Atkins Group donated it and more than 300 acres to University of Illinois Athletics, and it was renamed Atkins Golf Club. Architect Drew Rogers led a renovation completed in 2021, and it is now home to the Fighting Illini golf teams.
