Highland Park opened in 1903 as the home of the Country Club of Birmingham and is regarded as the oldest golf course in Alabama. When the club moved to Mountain Brook, the City of Birmingham bought the course, and it opened to the public in 1927. Bob Barrett and architect Bob Cupp renovated it in 1998, and it was updated again in 2019–2020.
