About Jake Gaither Municipal Golf Course

Jake Gaither Golf Course is a nine-hole municipal course owned by the City of Tallahassee that opened in December 1956 as a public course for African Americans during segregation. The city set aside the land after requests from the Tallahassee Civic League and named the course for Alonzo S. 'Jake' Gaither, the legendary Florida A&M University football coach; it later served as FAMU's home golf course. On August 9, 2022, the course was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
