Miami Springs Golf & Country Club is the oldest municipal golf course in South Florida, opening in 1923 as the Miami-Hialeah Golf Club after aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss was persuaded to build it. The 18-hole course is generally credited to the Chicago design team of William Langford and Theodore Moreau. It hosted the Miami Open from 1925 to 1955 (winners included Gene Sarazen, Tommy Armour, Sam Snead and Byron Nelson) and was the first golf course in Florida to admit Black players.
