About Sailfish Sands Golf Course

The complex traces to the St. Lucie River Country Club, designed by William Langford and Theodore Moreau of Chicago, with Langford driving the first ball on January 10, 1925. Martin County acquired it in 1947 and renamed it Martin County Golf & Country Club; Ernest Smith completed 18 holes in 1963, and Ron Garl later expanded it to 36 holes. In 2020 architect John Sanford downsized it away from the airport runway protection zone, renamed it Sailfish Sands, and created Florida's first reversible 9-hole course.
