About Eglin Golf Course
The Eglin course began in 1922 as a nine-hole layout of the Chicago Country Club of Valparaiso, organized by Chicago businessman James E. Plew, who brought 200 golfers by special train for the opening. William Langford and Theodore Moreau were hired in 1927 to expand it to 18 holes. The club went bankrupt after the 1929 crash and became the Valparaiso Country Club; the Plew family sold the property to the U.S. government in 1949, and it became the Eagle Course on Eglin Air Force Base, named for the F-15 Eagle.
