Kirtland Country Club

Kirtland Country Club formally opened on July 9, 1921 on rolling land east of Cleveland, and its golf course followed in 1922 from the drawing board of English architect Charles Hugh Alison, a partner of Harry Colt during their influential run of American commissions. The layout reflects Golden Age principles: strategic bunkering, bold green contours, and holes that reward placement over brute strength across the property's natural ridges and hollows. A 1975 clubhouse fire prompted rebuilding the following year, but the course retained its character, and later restoration work by Ron Forse honored Alison's original intent. The club has hosted USGA championship golf, including national amateur competition, cementing its reputation as one of northeast Ohio's finest classic courses. Mature trees, tumbling terrain and understated elegance define the round.
