We love that Ohio golfers can walk a genuine A. W. Tillinghast design without leaving the state, because Lakewood is the only one there is. The recent Keith Foster restoration brought back the old strategy and shaping, and the club's century of family tradition gives the place real warmth. It's history and hospitality on the same round.

About Lakewood Country Club
Lakewood Country Club traces to 1921 and holds a special place in Ohio golf as the state's only course designed by A. W. Tillinghast, one of the Golden Age's most celebrated architects. Set in Westlake, west of Cleveland, the parkland layout has served its members for more than a century as a full-service, family-focused club. It twice hosted the Cleveland Open, in 1966 and 1968, bringing touring professionals to the property. In 2024 architect Keith Foster completed a comprehensive restoration aimed at recovering Tillinghast's original character and strategy while updating the course to modern championship standards. Today it plays to a par of 71 across roughly 7,000 yards, with bentgrass greens and bluegrass fairways. For students of course architecture, Lakewood is notable simply for carrying Tillinghast's signature in a state where no other course does.
