McGuire's Resort in Cadillac was founded in 1949 by Curly and Velma McGuire as a roadside restaurant overlooking Lake Cadillac. Golf began in 1961, when W. Bruce Matthews built the first nine of the Spruce course, later expanded to a 27-hole complex. The resort was renamed Evergreen Resort around 2012.
