Monroe Country Club was incorporated in October 1923, after a temporary golf group had run a three-hole course in the infield of the local fairgrounds. Chicago architect Harry B. Snead laid out a nine-hole course, which opened in August 1924, and the course later grew to 18 holes. Under new ownership as Monroe Golf Club, it opened a 12-hole beginner course called the Little Gem in June 2023.
