About Mount Pleasant Golf Course

Mount Pleasant is a Baltimore municipal 18-hole course designed by Gus Hook and opened in 1933. It hosted the PGA Tour's Eastern Open through the 1950s and early 1960s and was the site of Arnold Palmer's 1956 Eastern Open victory - his third PGA Tour title - with other champions including Sam Snead, Cary Middlecoff and Bob Toski. As a whites-only municipal course under segregation, it was among those Black golfers were long barred from until Baltimore's municipal courses were desegregated through the 1940s legal fight, with full access granted in 1948.
