Pierce Lake Golf Course, part of the Washtenaw County parks system, opened in 1996 on about 230 acres in Chelsea, between the village and I-94. Harry Bowers designed the 18-hole layout, whose back nine runs through woods and wetland. In 2011 the county Water Resources Commissioner recognized it for excellence in water quality management.
