About Rocky Point Golf Course

Founded by the Tampa Automobile Club, Rocky Point opened its first nine in 1912 and completed 18 in 1913 — one of Florida's earliest courses — with Atlanta's F.G. Byrd credited on the design. It closed during WWII when the federal government took the land for Drew Field. The City of Tampa took it over in 1953, added a third nine in 1963, and the Tampa Sports Authority has run the public course since 1978.
