About Sarah Shank Golf Course

Sarah Shank Golf Course is a southside Indianapolis municipal course about two miles from downtown. The Board of Park Commissioners approved plans by landscape architect L.V. Sheridan in August 1925, and the nine-hole course opened in 1927 as the city's third municipal course, joining Riverside and South Grove. It was named for Sarah Robbins Shank, wife of Mayor Lew Shank and a member of the Board of Park Commissioners, who died in February 1924. Architect William H. Diddel redesigned and expanded it to 18 holes, reopening in 1941.
