About South Grove Golf Course

South Grove Golf Course opened in 1901 as the second nine-hole course in Indianapolis' Riverside Park, joining Riverside (1900) among the city's oldest municipal golf courses. It took its name from the grove of trees along the south side of the park. Through the 1910s, Riverside and South Grove were the most heavily used golf courses in Indianapolis, and South Grove kept a golf professional on staff year-round. It is operated by Indy Parks and Recreation and, under a Riverside Park master plan, is slated to be converted from golf use.
