About Tam O'Shanter Golf Course

Tam O'Shanter opened in 1925, and George S. May bought it in 1937. May held the All American Open and the World Championship of Golf there until 1957; the 1953 World Championship was the first golf tournament shown live on national television, won by Lew Worsham with a 104-yard wedge for eagle on the final hole. The Western Open was played there in 1964 and 1965. Most of the land was later developed, and the Niles Park District now runs a nine-hole course.
