About Whittle Springs Golf Course

Whittle Springs Golf Course in North Knoxville opened in 1932 and is regarded by the City of Knoxville as the city's first public golf course. It began as part of the Whittle Springs resort, which included a grand hotel and swimming pool, and over its history hosted visits from Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson. The course has been home to the Knoxville City Amateur Championship for roughly eight decades; in 2011 the city added a new lake as part of a municipal energy and infrastructure project.
