About Shelby Golf Course

Shelby Golf Course opened in July 1924 in East Nashville's Shelby Park and is generally cited as Nashville's first municipal golf course. The course that opened is documented as the work of architect Tom Bendelow; a Donald Ross drawing for Shelby Park survives in Tennessee Golf Association files, but research indicates it reflects an earlier planning episode rather than the built course, so the common Ross attribution is disputed. It remains a par-72 Metro Parks municipal layout of roughly 6,000 yards.
