Purdue broke ground on the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on October 18, 1996, with Pete Dye redesigning the university's 18-hole North Course as a championship course; Dye donated his design fees. The North Course was renamed the Kampen Course for the late Emerson Kampen, a Purdue trustee.
