Lost Canyons Golf Course

Lost Canyons was a dramatic 36-hole public complex carved into the rugged hills above Simi Valley. Pete Dye routed both layouts through steep, chaparral-covered canyons, with consulting input from Fred Couples. The Sky Course, opening for play in 2000, rides the ridgeline and looks down on the Shadow Course, which winds along the canyon floor and opened in 2002. Both par-72 tracks earned early acclaim, landing on Golf Magazine's Top 10 Best New Courses lists. The setting was as punishing as it was beautiful: wildfires and floods repeatedly destroyed the wooden bridges linking holes. Facing declining rounds and rising maintenance costs, the club closed in June 2016, its acreage eyed for residential development. For a brief run it was one of Southern California's boldest, most demanding modern designs.
