This cliff-top course in Rancho Palos Verdes began as Ocean Trails Golf Club, a Pete Dye design. In June 1999, shortly before opening, a landslide sent the 18th hole toward the Pacific. Ocean Trails opened in 2000 with 15 holes, but its developers went into bankruptcy, and Donald Trump bought the property in November 2002. After extensive geological stabilization and redesign, all 18 holes reopened as Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles in January 2006, and it was widely reported as one of the most expensive courses ever built.
