Martis Camp

Martis Camp opened in 2008 as the private centerpiece of a gated, roughly 2,000-acre residential community in Martis Valley, just north of Lake Tahoe near Truckee. Tom Fazio routed the course through forested terrain framed by the Carson Range, Lookout Mountain and the Sierra crest, crossing Martis Creek at several points. The front nine climbs among the pines with sweeping mountain views, while the back nine settles onto the valley floor, and the layout stretches past 7,700 yards from the tips. Critics responded quickly: Golf Digest ranked it among the best new private courses in the country shortly after opening. In 2013 the club hosted the U.S. Junior Amateur, giving the young Fazio design an early championship pedigree. Alpine scenery, generous elevation change and immaculate conditioning have kept it near the top of California mountain-golf lists.
