About Black Brook Golf Course

Black Brook began as the Mentor Headlands Country Club, a private nine-hole course opened in September 1924 and designed by Bertie Way, who also designed the Firestone South Course and Mayfield Country Club; Way's second nine was added in 1928. The club went bankrupt after the October 1929 crash and reopened as the Black Brook Golf Club; Floyd Hopkins bought it in 1951 and ran it as a semi-private course for about five decades. The City of Mentor bought it for $6.25 million and took possession in February 2005.
