About Good Park Golf Course

J.E. Good Park began in 1924, when Akron businessman J. Edward Good gave the city 180 acres. The course, designed by Bertie Way (who also designed Firestone's South course), opened in April 1925, and it marked its 100th year in 2025. Locals call it "The Park" for its mature trees and tight layout, and its junior tournament dates to 1938. Good Park is home to the Tiretown Golf Club, founded in 1950 and described as the nation's largest predominantly African American golf club. At its founding, Good Park was one of only three Northeast Ohio courses where Black golfers could play.
